This Week In Guns: April 1 2020

Josh's carry gun, FNS9-C

We're currently living in very odd times. These are times that none of us are used to. Most of us are being encouraged to at least some degree to stay home so we can help to stop the spread of this virus. Still, even with a majority of Americans self-quarantining themselves at home, we have gun news to bring you.

Guns are essential:

We've made our thoughts on this, well, at least they were my thoughts, known in a recent article I wrote. Gun stores and ranges should be considered as essential businesses. While we hope that this is common sense, it's not.

The Trump administration, however, has deemed gun related businesses as essential in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic. This comes just a few days after several states, like New Jersey and California made attempts to close down these businesses stating they were non-essential.

People have a right to protect themselves, regardless of what is going on outside in the world. We just hope that the gun shops are using common sense when it comes to the number of people they're letting in their stores at once. Also, consider shopping online for the time being and follow guidelines for disinfecting packages that come to your house.

3D printed guns:

You may or may not remember a little while back the whole 3D printed gun debacle that was taking place. I admittedly didn't follow this one as closely as I should have, but suffice it to say that files for guns that can be printed in a 3D printer made it out and gun grabbers lost their collective minds over it.

The files were removed, and have since been put back out there again. Defense Distributed's files are back online, but users will have to undergo a vetting process and pay a small annual fee to access these files.

The vetting process includes geographical verification, and making sure you're not an employee of a gun control group or anti-gun publication — among other things. You can find out more info on this, here.

Gun and ammo sales soar:

It should really come as no surprise that gun and ammunition sales are some of the highest we've ever been. As demand for these items increases, so will prices. What's interesting, to me at least, is where the gun and ammo sales are soaring.

Even in traditionally anti-gun places, like Hawaii, one gun shop reports a demand that is 5X higher than normal. His ammo is just about sold out for the more popular calibers, and, he's seeing more first-time gun buyers coming into his shop.

That's surprising to me because I didn't realize there were that many gun owners in that state, especially concentrated down to one city.

But, it's not just Hawaii where people are flocking to buy guns, it's happening all around the country. Retailers are doing the best they can to keep stuff in stock, but they're falling behind.

Conclusion:

Gun news is still happening, and we'll continue to do our best to keep you up to date on these things as they happen. Let us know your thoughts on this in the comments below.
