Traveling With Your Gun: 2 Tools I Can’t Live Without

We are officially about to enter the most traveled time of the year with the biggest holidays right around the corner. At the end of this month we've got Thanksgiving which is the most traveled holiday of the year, next month we've got Christmas, followed by the New Year in January.

We always recommend traveling with your gun whenever possible, but navigating the landscape of these United States with all the different gun laws is a near impossibility. You will undoubtedly find yourself committing a felony without even knowing it if you're not careful.

There are tools I like to use when I travel to help keep me informed of the local gun laws of whichever state I'm in. These tools are excellent and I can't live without them:

I'll talk more about the tools in a moment, but first, let's discuss why this is important.

There are millions of people traveling for the holidays, and I can guarantee that at least some of them aren't very nice.

Last year, it was estimated that about 54 million people traveled at least 50 miles for Thanksgiving, and many predictions estimate similar numbers again this year because when the economy is strong, people travel.

For the concealed carrier, we recommend trying to avoid trouble before it even starts. In addition to keeping your head on that swivel we like to talk about, there are other things you can do, travel wise, to help mitigate your dealings with road ragers.

For example, try not to start your travel at the same time everyone else is. The early evening hours are usually when most people start their road trips, and choosing an off time like during the early morning or late at night means dealing with fewer idiots on the road.

If you live in a bigger metro, trying to travel at any time can be hazardous just due to the sheer number of people who live there. The tip here is to try and pick an alternate, less traveled route so you can deal with fewer idiots.

Also HIGHLY recommend is knowing the laws not only where you're going, but also the laws of the states in between to make sure you're not making yourself an accidental criminal. It's important that you know where you can and can't (legally) take your gun, as well as if you're unknowingly breaking any local laws.

Because we recommend people live the self-defense lifestyle and carry where they legally can with the understanding that there are a lot of people you may encounter in your travels who are less than pleasant, we recommend certain tools to help you understand the gun laws where you're going.

We like to say that we live the self-defense lifestyle and that goes into all aspects of our lives from the clothes we wear each day of the week, to our travel plans when we go to visit loved ones.
