Pennsylvania Now Honors Ohio CCW Permits

7406521610_54f1f93b6e_oPennsylvania has recently added Ohio as a state whose permit will be honored in Pennsylvania. As we previously announced, Ohio's law recently changed to honor permits from all other states and in doing so it would seem that they now meet the requirements in Pennsylvania 6106(b)(15) of the Uniform Firearms Act that grants reciprocity to certain state permits without a formal reciprocity agreement.

So, for all those Ohio permit holders you can now look at taking a summer vacation to the Keystone State!

How does Ohio’s new no permit for concealed carry affect this.

Your question answers itself. Since there is no longer a concealed carry permit required in Ohio, how is Pennsylvania to honor that which does not exist? More pointedly, Pennsylvania is NOT going to permit a non-resident to carry concealed merely because Ohio no longer requires a CCW permit.

By the way: Ohio CCW’s do still exist and will grant the permit holder certain rights to carry concealed in areas that a non-permit carrier will not have, such as carrying concealed on school property when dropping off or picking up your kids. A non-permitted concealed carrier is prohibited from carrying a firearm on any area of school grounds.

You answered your own question. To be reciprocated, you’d need the actual CCW from Ohio. That’s the additional advantage of having the CCW.

Unless a state says out of state people don’t need a permit. You’ll still need a permit to carry out of state.
