Concealed Carry Gun Tools App – Major Update for Android

We are pleased to announce a significant update to the Concealed Carry Gun Tools app. This update is now live on Google Play and the Apple App Store.

“Between some large changes in the Apple and Android framework and our internal challenges with finding and working with a quality mobile developer we really fell behind in the project over the last few year,” says Jacob Paulsen, President of ConcealedCarry.com. “Now however, this update is a complete rebuild of the app from scratch utilizing all the latest technology, cleaning up the user interface to be more intuitive, and laying a foundation to add new features we feel modern concealed carriers need.”

We first released this app in early 2015 and did a major overhaul in 2018. The app was due for another major overhaul and that is what this update represents. A new build, completely from scratch.

The app still includes the most popular features that people have come to rely on including:

The industry's first multi-permit reciprocity map. Input any combination of resident and non-resident permit(s) and the app will provide you an up to date reciprocity map that you can also download and share easily.

Also, the app includes our extremely popular state law reference library. Over 20 unique gun laws are tracked for every state in the nation and can be viewed quickly and easily from within the app.

Users can also still access our ongoing newsfeed, listen to The Concealed Carry Podcast, and search our business directory of over 90,000 gun stores, gun ranges, firearm instructors, and gun free zones.

The firearm library, and the training tracker features have been removed from this latest version of the app.

“Those features were rarely used and aren't in line with our current vision for the app though you may see us pursuing other training tracker and database technology in the future outside of this mobile app,” says Paulsen. “Removing those features clears up space to add other planned new tools to that app in future updates.”

Additional tools for shopping for product on the ConcealedCarry.com web store, accessing training content from Guardian University, the largest online library of self-defense video training, as well as the ability to add your permit data and expiration date in the app for concealed carry permit renewal reminders have been removed as well. We hope to add some of those features back into the app in the near future.

If you don't already have the current app installed, please get it installed so you can receive the update as soon as it is available. In addition to the button links above in this article, you can also download the app for your specific mobile device by going to: www.concealedcarry.com/mobileapp

Edited 1/7/25 to reflect that the app update is now available in the Apple App Store.

It totally screwed up the app. DO NOT UPDATE IT!

Definitely going to get rid of the app since you completely screwed it up.

Jared, more detail would be appreciated. So far the feedback we’re receiving is very positive. Can you clarify what you mean by “screwed up” so we can address the issue or concern?

I have MD resident, Utah and PA non resident, please explain to me why I am not good in Maine and New Hampshire.

    • Jacob Paulsen on December 21, 2024 at 7:37 pm

Kent, Maine and New Hampshire do not honor the Maryland Permit. Additionally, neither of the 2 states honor any non-resident permits. So between your 3 permits none of them are honored in Maine or New Hampshire. That said, both Maine and New Hampshire have constitutional carry laws in place so while your permits are not valid and you won’t have the same authority to carry as those with a valid permit you still do have the right to carry under constitutional carry authority. Hope that helps.

So your map should not be marked red, you need another color, category, and explanation that these are Constitutional Carry states.

Good feedback Kent. Something for us to consider in how the information is presented. It is very important to us to make sure people do not confuse constitutional carry authority with permit reciprocity. Perhaps an additional color would be sufficient.

We appreciate your feedback very much. The challenge with your proposed solution is that there are states that have constitutional carry while also recognizing permits (including non-resident permits) from certain states. As Jacob mentioned, it is very important to us that permit reciprocity is accurate on the reciprocity map. Merging that data can be confusing to some permittees including the differences in law with associated consequences between constitutional carry and recognized permit carry.

This is why we maintain a separate page on the website (and eventually incorporated back into the app) for constitutional (permitless) carry. It can be found at: https://www.concealedcarry.com/concealed-carry-laws-in-the-united-states/constitutional-permitless-carry/

The correct procedure here is to check the reciprocity map and then check the constitutional carry map when making carrying decisions in various states.

We are constantly looking at better ways to handle and present the data and improve the app. Thanks again!

Tennessee carry laws are still wrong, going on 5th year now. Thats besides no 2025 update either. Just that bit tells me not to trust the app.

    • Jacob Paulsen on January 7, 2025 at 10:31 am

Mr Rodgers, it would be appreciated and helpful if you would tell us what is wrong. We work hard to maintain all accuracy and certainly we make mistakes and are open to corrections but your comment seems aimed at tearing us down instead of helping us support the community. I sent you an email 2 days ago hoping you would respond with some details but I haven’t heard back. I’ll be conducting an audit of the TN information today.

Jacob is correct Maine has constitutional carry but there are a number of restrictions for those without a carry license issued by a State that they have a reciprocal agreement with. They due issue non resident carry licenses to those meeting their requirements.
