Alex Ragulsky: Bianci Cup Champion – 40 Year Law Enforcement Veteran

For those of you who don't know Alex Ragulsky, get ready to hear from one of the absolute best as USA Firearm Training sat down with this former US Air Force security officer, 40-year veteran firearms instructor, deputy sheriff, patrol officer, detective, sergeant, and instructor at 3 different Colorado law enforcement agencies. That in and of itself is quite the list of accolades, but that's just his professional life.

Alex is also a highly decorated competitive shooter. Alex has shot air rifle, shotgun, pistol and three-gun competition and in 2012 he was inducted into the Colorado State Trapshooting Association’s Hall of Fame.  He has won many state titles not only in Colorado but also in many surrounding states.  Alex has successfully competed at the Bianchi Cup and the Glock Sports Shooting Foundation, as well as several other shooting venues.  In 2014, Alex achieved MASTER status with the Glock Sports Shooting Foundation. Alex is also the 41st person in history to receive the NRA's Triple Distinguished Expert rating in pistols, rifles, and shotguns.

Alex retired from police work in August of 2015, but even still the man keeps busy as an NRA instructor and training counselor, Alex is also an armorer for Glock, Beretta, Smith and Wesson and Remington firearms.  Alex is also a member of the MEC Shotshell Reloaders Pro Staff.

In addition to being a full-time police sergeant Alex is a frequent guest lecturer for a legal protection firm speaking about a wide range of legal and tactical topics.

It's pretty safe to say that Alex Ragulsky is a man who lives and breathes firearms, and that is why we knew he would be the perfect guest for our November 2016 Guardian Nation live webinar. And he did not disappoint.

Alex sat down with USA Firearm Training President Jacob Paulsen and Riley Bowman to go over many topics that gave us a look at the vast amounts of knowledge he has into the world of firearms. Including taking questions from the live audience of Guardian Nation members.

Some of the subjects that were discussed included.

  • The history of Alex's competition shooting success and how he got to where he was.
  • What is the right approach for someone who needs to use a firearm in a real-life encounter?
  • How should you work with law enforcement once they arrive on the scene?
  • How to mentally prepare for an unknown environment.
  • Is there a good audible deterrent to potential criminals?
  • Thinking strategically as a part of a defensive team.
  • Does tunnel vision exist in combat? If so, how do you help reduce or eliminate it?
  • The importance of the fundamentals.

About Craig Martin

Craig Martin grew up in the unincorporated town of Lewis, Wisconsin. From a young age, Craig was introduced to guns, as he was tasked with defending his backwood home’s wiring from a scourge of red squirrels.

Ever the animal lover, though; Craig couldn’t let these creatures die needlessly. So he would take his kills and leave them for the foxes, coyotes, and bears to eat at a deer feeder his grandfather built around their home.

His lifestyle made Craig understand that guns are a tool and ever since, has spread the word about how firearms are not a menace, like the red squirrel, but an item to help people. He instils this in every article he writes for USA Firearm Training.
