NY Attorney General Moves To Dissolve the NRA

Breaking news out of New York, the Attorney General is seeking to dissolve the National Rifle Association for “years of self-dealing and illegal conduct.”

In short, AG Letitia James has filed a suit against the NRA, Wayne LaPierre, and other top-level leaders trying to get them shutdown.

Here is the Tweet stating her intentions:

While I can't say as though I'm surprised by this action, it's a futile attempt. It's not futile because she won't succeed, because I haven't looked at the merits of this case as of yet to decide if she will.

It's futile because in the greater scheme of things, while the NRA is the largest gun organization out there, there are millions more gun owners who are disenfranchised with the organization than there are who belong to it.

I can personally see the corruption at the top and believe that the top brass has to go so we can get them out of the way and start fighting gun rights battles again.

No matter what, I believe there is a silver lining here as one of two things is likely to occur:

  1. If the NRA is shut down, everyone will move to another, in my opinion, better, organization the GOA. Or remnants of the NRA will form a new organization that will be better than the old one.
  2. She inadvertently (and perhaps unintentionally) forces LaPierre and others like him out of the organization to make way for better leadership who will fight for gun rights properly.

I do want to mention again that she wants the NRA dissolved, and only time will tell how this plays out. One thing is absolutely certain, the NRA will likely be asking for even more money to fight this battle.

I let my membership expire years ago and they're not getting a dime from me until they fix themselves.

This does have an interesting side effect though that many people may not be thinking about, and that's the NRA certified instructors. If the NRA is dissolved and there are thousands of certified instructors who teach concealed carry permit classes across the country, will they still be certified to teach?

Since many states require certification to teach these classes, that could cause a huge backlog in permit classes.

How do you think it'll play out? Let us know in the comments below.

What has the NRA done lately? I don’t see my 2nd amendment rights getting better. Gun modifications and gun builds are harder to do now. Let’s rename it Confederate Gun Owners.

I profoundly disagree with Josh and Mr. Gest. You most certainly have the right to distance yourself from the NRA. That being said how can you view this as a good thing. This AG is waging ware not only against the NRA but every gun owner in this country and against the 2A. I am a lifetime member of the NRA and a 2020 member of the NRA Golden Eagles. I support the efforts of the NRA. The danger here is if the leadership of the NRA are guilty of some wrong doing then they should pay for their mistakes but to dissolve the largest gun owners organization in America with 5 million plus membership is an obvious attack on gun owner rights and the 2A. America needs to wake up and see that the very fabric of this country is under attack by radical leftist. If we don’t fight for these rights we will sacrifice them and they will be gone forever!

Lawrence, thank you for the comment.

I’m not necessarily saying this is a good thing and in fact, I just went back and read the article and didn’t see where I said that it was a good thing. All I’m saying is that there are likely two different outcomes. And to clear it up, the best outcome in my opinion is that Wayne and the other top brass step down to protect the association with hopes that it gets rid of the case against them.

Then, new people who actually care about gun rights can be put forth in these positions. The NRA is currently extremely weak and I don’t believe they’ve been about protecting gun rights for some time. While I do believe that this is a war against the 2A indirectly (because politicians somehow falsely believe that the NRA IS the 2A, which it is NOT), the Second Amendment will continue to exist without it.

      Thanks again!
