A Farewell, and a Look Back

It's official, friends. I'm rounding out my last week as the main writer/editor of this fantastic website and am officially about to pass the torch on to another set of capable hands. I won't spoil the fun and tell you who it is, but just know that it is someone you already know and love.

It is someone who has been and will continue to be a brother to me in more ways than one.

Before I move on, let me say that it has been my absolute pleasure being your editor over the past four years. I have loved bringing you all the news, gear and gun reviews, and editing for others. I've written and published just under 600 of my own articles on this blog, and countless others for different writers.

Also know that I'm parting with the company on good terms as I seek out new adventures in an attempt to be my own boss.

We all remain friends and will continue to work together in some capacity well into the future.

I also want to say that this won't be the last time you see or hear from me, as I'll still contribute to this website from time to time. Whenever I need to put my words out in front of a bigger audience than my own blog affords me.

In other words, I'll be back.

We've had a lot of fun over the past four years, and the guys who run and work for this company will be missed. And in fact, this is the longest running job I've ever had outside of my beloved Marine Corps. That is saying something.

This is an excellent company to work for, and deciding to leave was not the easiest choice. Still, I felt it was in the best interest for both parties.

Some of my favorite memories involve some of these guys right here:

I'm the big, fat one all the way to the right side.

For this USCCA Concealed Carry Expo in Pittsburgh, where that picture was taken, I have fond memories. Memories of a few of us walking around town trying to find food, but avoid the McDonald's where a shooting just occurred.

Memories of Matthew trying to figure out what Pepsi Products mean. Memories of Corey's air mattress deflating in the middle of the night.

Ahhh, memories. There are so many memories that I'm actually getting choked up a bit here, which isn't a natural thing.

We've been through a lot together, San Diego a few times, Las Vegas a few times, Indiana, Texas, Georgia, Pennsylvania, Kentucky, and more. So I leave you with this — a poem I wrote, which is how I best express myself:

It is hard to say farewell,
my friends;
but know we will meet again.

We've had a lot of fun I think,
both you and I;
those times of fun will forever be present on my mind.

If times ever get tough and you need a
helping hand;
call me up and I'll rush to you so I can help you stand.

I love you all like brothers, so please
call me bro;
it's time to say farewell my friends, for now it's time for me to go.

It has been my absolute pleasure to be your editor for the past four years. Take care,

Joshua Gillem

    Ah man, Josh. This was hard to read, but in a good way! Good memories indeed. I laughed pretty good remembering some of those times especially the ones involving Matthew. You will be missed as far as the every day interactions in our daily meetings and messages, but I know we’ll see you around and stay in touch. My prayers are with you and desiring of your success in future paths. Your venturing out on your own reminds me of Robert Frost’s famous words:

    “I shall be telling this with a sigh
    Somewhere ages and ages hence:
    Two roads diverged in a wood, and I—
    I took the one less traveled by,
    And that has made all the difference.”

      Thanks man. That was also hard to write. I’m sure our paths will cross at least a couple of times each year. And I’ll always be around if I’m ever needed.

    Josh best wishes in your next adventure and I’m sure our paths will cross again either at a conference or somewhere else. Take care and stay safe.

    I have appreciated and enjoyed your writings. I’ve never met any of the guys at the company, but you all feel like family. God bless you and your endeavors.
