The Basecamp Kit is named as it is designed to be a comprehensive trauma and first aid kit that is too big for the trail but ideal for the vehicle or campsite. A lot of backpackers, hikers, hunters, and outdoorsmen establish a base camp from which day hikes and excursions can embark. On the trail we recommend our “Tracker” kit which is lightweight and minimalistic. The Basecamp kit is heavy and full and will help sustain life until professional first responders can arrive.

First, the kit is packaged in the Ready Up Gear “Osprey” molle pouch. This tactical pouch is over 4 inches deep, 8 inches tall, and 6 inches wide. It includes various organizational pockets. And like all our kits it comes with a simple first-aid style patch attached via hook/loop to the exterior for fast identification.

When the situation goes beyond stopping a bleed — when someone needs an airway, a burn dressed properly, or a fracture immobilized for a long ride to the hospital — the Basecamp gives you the tools to do the job right. Built Around Speed and Capability

The Basecamp’s two C-A-T tourniquets from North American Rescue ride in dedicated soft MOLLE pouches mounted to the outside of the kit, staged for one-handed access without unzipping anything. In a severe bleed, every second counts, and how you carry your tourniquets matters as much as which ones you carry. A third SWAT-T tourniquet from H&H Medical rides inside as a backup or for use as an improvised pressure dressing.

Trauma Fundamentals, Done Right

For the rest of the bleed, the kit relies on names you’ll recognize: ChitoGauze hemostatic dressings, a Mountain Man compressed gauze, and the OLAES 4″ pressure bandage from Tactical Medical Solutions — a multi-purpose dressing that combines a pressure cup, gauze, and wrap in a single package. Penetrating chest trauma is covered by two Hyfin Compact chest seals from North American Rescue, vented to prevent tension pneumothorax. Together, these components give you redundancy and the ability to work multiple wounds, not just one.

Airway, Burns, and Orthopedic Care

This is where the Basecamp separates itself from a standard trauma kit. A pre-lubricated nasopharyngeal airway (NPA) lets a trained responder maintain an open airway in an unconscious patient — a capability most kits leave out entirely. A North American Rescue 4″ Burntec dressing provides cooling, pain relief, and protection for serious burns, going well beyond what a tube of burn cream can do. And the Mountain Man Moldable Splint — comparable to a SAM Splint — paired with a triangle bandage and elastic wraps, lets you immobilize fractures, sprains, and dislocations for transport. These three additions turn the kit from a bleed-control package into a genuine first-response system.

Patient Management and Everyday First Aid

Rounding out the kit are the tools that make treatment actually work in the field: trauma shears, nitrile gloves, a mylar rescue blanket to prevent shock, a permanent marker for marking tourniquet times, and cloth medical tape. And because the worst-case isn’t the only case, the Basecamp also includes a stocked first-aid pack — burn cream, triple antibiotic ointment, ibuprofen, acetaminophen, diphenhydramine, antiseptic and sting-and-bite wipes, adhesive bandages, and tweezers — so it earns its keep on a normal day, not just a bad one.
