Topic: What About Appendix Carry?

Just like there are many ways to "skin a cat," there are many, MANY ways to carry a gun. Appendix Inside the Waistband (AIWB) is just one of those, and it happens to get a lot of emotions stirred up either for or against it. It's uncomfortable, the gun is pointing towards an "uncomfortable place," I could shoot myself in the femoral artery, etc., are some of the reasons people will argue against it. But what are some of the pros of appendix carry, and do they outweigh the cons? Listen in on Riley and Matthew's discussion to see what they think about it!

Another large Pro for Appendix carry is that we, in this culture, are conditioned to not look at the frontal region of others. This in my opinion means that it is easier to conceal a firearm in this area of the body, as people are trained not to look at this area of the body. And yes, seated in a car makes Appendix carry ideal. Additionally, it makes for a stealthy manner of reaching for the firearm when the firearm is in the Appendix location, as you are not making that telltale motion of the strong side carry draw.

Honestly have to say big a larger guy like Riley I’ve steered away from appendix carry but am going to give it a try now. Learning all kinds of interesting things on these PodCasts

Rob, yeah, I hear ya. It did take me a number of years and a number of times of trying before I was able to finally make it work for me. And now that I have, it is becoming my preferred CCW method next to OWB strongside. I prefer AIWB over standard 4-5 o’clock IWB now. Good luck, buddy!!

I have tried many times to appendix carry and can’t see to find a way that the grip doesn’t stick out. I have tried several holsters and the grip alway seems to twist out. I’m not a ver big guy lol. I’m 5’6 160. Not sure what else to try. Oh yeah I have a block 19. Thank and love the podcast

      Hi Joe,
Thanks for listening and I am so glad you like the podcast. If you like AIWB but are just having problems with the grip twisting out, try a holster that has a ‘claw’ or pad attached to it. Here is a link to a T Rex Arms holster with the ‘claw’ https://trex-arms.com/store/raptor-appendix-holster/

Also, check out a holster with a ‘wedge’ device on it like this one http://shop.aholster.com/product.sc?productId=11

You could also very easily make one of these yourself with some foam padding and velcro. It will cant the grip back toward your body and help with the issue you are having. Hope this helps.

Awesome! It would be great to hear how it works out for you, if it allows you to carry comfortably and concealed well. Thanks for listening, it really is great to get feedback positive and negative so we can always try and push ourselves to be better. Stay safe and God bless!
