After a bill to expand military service members’ rights to carry weapons on military bases and installations and defend themselves failed in the US Congress, the US Air Force began encouraging base commanders to use their already existing authority to train and arm service members with defensive weapons. This, too, after an Air Force study concluded that having more armed service members might help stop or prevent other similar shootings and attacks from happening again in the future.
