Now is Not The Time For Political Complacency

The Gun Rights Rally in Columbus, Ohio on March 10, 2018, drew around 1000 well-armed, law-abiding citizens.

I just returned home from a rally for second amendment rights. We gathered, around 1,100 strong in front of the Statehouse Building in Columbus, Ohio, in response to an abhorrent, anti-gun legislation that turncoat Republican Gov. Kasich wants to force on Ohioans. Kasich, the flip-flopping 2016 presidential candidate's anti-gun stance has spawned Ohio SB260.

In addition to creating gun and ammo registration, it would make it a felony to possess any firearm capable of accepting a magazine of 10 rounds or more. Yes, you are right, that is nearly every handgun and rifle. Even the killing machine known as the Ruger 10/22.

Why Should this Matter to you if you're not Living in Ohio?

The gun-control legislation like in SB260 is not unique to Ohio. States have already haphazardly enacted similar legislation. Just look at the consensus of joy from what happened in Florida when Governor Scott signed gun-control legislation. The only thing the anti-gunners regret is that it doesn't go far enough! Now beware, in statehouses in every state in the country, bills like SB260 are being seriously considered.

Florida's Republican Governor Scott, proudly signs gun-control law, under the guise that it will make people safer, knowing the truth is, that the law will not.

We are at a critical time when it comes to liberty and firearm ownership. Even in the height of the Obama presidency, where gun owners believed the ‘end was coming,' were law-abiding gun owners vilified. Pro-gun representatives were elected in areas of the country where gun ownership is supported and a way of life. But after a psychopath kills 17 people, facilitated by a litany of gaffes by the FBI and local law enforcement, the tide has shifted.

We know gun-control will not make anyone safer. But that is not the narrative most Americans will hear from the media and politicians.

The media has put into overdrive their exploitative, erroneous and lie-filled gun-control campaign. This is having an impact on the uneducated masses who hastily consume the verbal diarrhea that pours from their lips. Pushing the ‘us versus them' mentality has turned millions of great Americans into targets for slanderous moral attacks, simply for pointing out a truth that gun bans won't work. If that weren't bad enough, the anti-gun rhetoric is having an impact where we have never seen it before.

Pro 2A Businesses?

Who would think that companies such as Dick's sporting goods, Walmart, and others that cater to outdoorsmen, hunters, and the like, would never turn against their customer base … right? Wrong. These stores now have policies refusing to sell long guns to 18-20-year-old's who are legally able to purchase and possess these guns. Because the NRA is somehow to blame for the failure of law enforcement and the lack of morality in society, many companies have severed ties with the one organization that has provided more gun safety training to Americans than all the others combined.

Connecticut Gov. Dannel Malloy actually said that the NRA is a Terrorist organization.

The virtue signaling through vilifying the NRA and its 5 million law-abiding members has come from airline companies such as Delta and United, banks, rental cars, insurance companies and the list goes on and on. Never has this type of thing happened before.

Republican Elected Officials:

Voter apathy is real, and often times people don't bother to inform themselves of the candidates' stance on certain topics. They simply vote for whoever has the corresponding (R) or (D) next to their name on the ballot. Voters mistakenly believed voting for someone with an (R) next to their name meant their gun rights were safe. Well the times, they are a-changing. Many elected officials who were once supporters of the Second Amendment are marching to the beat of a different drummer.

Are they caving to political pressure, a true moral conviction, or something else? I can't be sure of the reason, and truthfully the reason doesn't matter much to me. If elected officials move toward compromising freedom and unalienable rights, to gain political points by voting for legislation that will do nothing to make anyone safer, they need to be replaced.

We must be more vocal and push back against the onslaught of misinformation and lies.

The Gun-Control ‘Conversation':

Make no mistake about it folks, our constitutional right to bear arms is under attack like never before. The gun-control ‘conversation' is a one-sided endorsement of anti-gun rhetoric. No one who understands firearms, safety or the constitution is invited to the ‘conversation.' The narrative is driven by the media, politicians and special interest groups that have been paid to distort the truth, hide facts, and reach a goal of disarming law-abiding citizens.

Repeal of the Second Amendment will never happen, and these people know it. The only way to reach their goal is to subvert the Second Amendment, by allowing Congress to pass more and more laws restricting the types of guns we can own. This is the slippery slope we will travel down until all guns are outlawed, except for a very few (the wealthy and powerful).

This is what passes as a ‘conversation' about gun safety. Proposing something that will not make people safer, and when someone points it out, they are berated by an arena filled with anti-gunners.

The Fight:

Start by educating yourselves on the political issues in your state and where your elected officials stand. That's not going to be enough though. You simply MUST join and support the pro 2A groups in your state. The anti-gunners are well funded by Bloomberg, Soros, as well as movie and sports celebrities. They pay for rallies, media spots and with the help of leftist social media platforms, control the narrative going out to the average American.

Gun owners must become more engaged and vocal about why these laws do nothing to make anyone safer. At every point, we must challenge the misinformation and provide the truth.

Screaming ‘Molon Labe' or arguing on social media will do nothing to shift the balance back towards freedom. We must donate, volunteer, support appropriate political campaigns, gather and hold pro 2A rallies to fight because our freedoms depend on it.

Gun rights, the right to self-protection is an inalienable right.

If you believe that the ultimate goal is to ban AR-15's or high-capacity magazines, you have been out to lunch. The goal now is, always has been, and always will be to register and ultimately control the number and type of guns and ammo in circulation and the people who own them. Thereby, creating a country where the right to keep and bear arms only comes after asking for permission. The right to self-defense only comes if elected officials think you deserve it. And, the right to have a balance against a tyrannical government is a joke.

We must never become complacent.  French philosopher Joseph de Maistre said: “every nation gets the government it deserves.” What this means is that if we lose our 2nd Amendment rights, it will be because of our failure to fight to maintain it. Sitting idly by, being happy that only 10% of the proposed anti-gun legislation passed is a slow, methodical death march of our freedom. Do not compromise an ounce of freedom for false security.

Where do you stand?
