Firearms must be securely stored when one knows or reasonably should know that a juvenile can gain access to the firearm without the permission of their parent or guardian or when a resident of the premises is ineligible to possess a firearm.

Wear and Carry Permit training is 16 hours of instruction for an original application and 8 hours of instruction for a renewal application. The approved training is offered by a Qualified Handgun Instructor and will include instruction on state firearm law, home firearm safety, handgun mechanisms and operation, and a component that requires the applicant to demonstrate gun safety and proficiency with a minimum score of 70% accuracy.

Designated security personnel (security guards, private detectives, special police, and armored car drivers/guards) must shoot a practical police course of at least 50 rounds, from no further than 25 yards and score at least 70% accuracy.

All other applicants must shoot a course of at least 25 rounds, from no further than 15 yards and score at least 70% accuracy.

- Court buildings and grounds, where the administrative head of the court has regulated weapons
- Maryland Transit Administration vehicles and buildings
- Within 1,000 feet of a demonstration in a public place after an officer has advised you and ordered you to leave
- Maryland Port Administration property and World Trade Center Baltimore property
- State parks, state forests, and Chesapeake Forest lands, except at designated shooting ranges and when legally hunting
- State highway rest areas, when posted
- Maryland Stadium Authority facilities
- State museums, unless authorized for an exhibition
- Community adult rehabilitation centers
- Child care centers, except small centers in residences
- Lodging establishments, where an innkeeper may refuse or remove you
- While under the influence of alcohol or drugs
- Whenever you're not in physical possession of the permit
- During a declared state of emergency where the Governor has issued orders controlling firearms
- Airport terminals, and possibly parking garages
- Local jurisdictions may add restrictions within 100 yards of or in a park, church, school, public building, or other place of public assembly
