No Duty to Retreat

- School property — buildings, structures, and adjacent grounds owned or rented by a school corporation, private school, licensed child care entity, or preschool program such as Head Start. A firearm locked in the trunk, in the glove compartment of a locked vehicle, or stored out of plain sight in a locked vehicle is a defense. Leaving it in plain view in a school parking lot is a separate misdemeanor
- School buses
- Commercial and charter aircraft
- Controlled access areas of airports. Parking lots and the terminal outside the secure area are fine unless posted
- The Indiana State Fairgrounds — must be locked in your vehicle
- Shipping ports controlled by the Indiana Port Commission
- Buildings containing the courtroom of a circuit, superior, city, town, or small claims court. Portions occupied by a residential tenant or private business, and common areas they use, are excluded
- Casinos — licensees must post at the passenger entrance and provide secure weapon storage
- Indiana Government Center Campus — the State Capitol, Government Center north and south, the State Library, the Washington Street and Senate Avenue garages, the Indiana Historical Society building and lot, and adjacent state-owned land
- Horse racing track property
- Falls of the Ohio State Park
- DNR properties administered by the division of nature preserves, and properties administered by the division of state museums and historic sites
- Buildings owned or administered by a local unit of government that have metal detectors at every public entrance, a trained law enforcement officer staffing each entrance whenever open to the public, and inspection of every person and bag. Even then, a handgun can't be barred from someone not otherwise prohibited — only the courtroom-building exception reaches handguns
- Public meetings, where intentional display of a firearm may be restricted
- Public hospital corporations containing a secure correctional health unit staffed 24 hours a day by law enforcement, and hospitals established under IC 16-22-2 or IC 16-23
- Events on property leased from a political subdivision, where the promoter sets rules of admission
- Approved postsecondary educational institutions, which may prohibit firearms on their property
- State parks on land leased from the Army Corps of Engineers — Mississinewa, Salamonie, Patoka, Brookville, Cagles Mill, Cecil M. Harden, and Monroe lakes
