3 Other EDC Items Worth Considering

I think it's safe to say that most of us have the EDC gun thing down pat. I think that if you're here reading this blog that chances are great you don't need me to tell you that you should be carrying a gun on your person for self-defense.

But, what if there were other things you could be carrying that are also important that you haven't considered yet? These are tools that can be used to save lives if needed as well as prevent attacks. If you're not carrying these other items, I encourage you to check them out and give it some thought.

Let's begin —

Pepper Spray:

As someone who has gone through the gas chamber on more than one occasion and has been peppered with the real OC spray, I can say that I'd rather have a picnic in a gas chamber than get sprayed in the face with the oleoresin capsicum (OC) spray.

That stuff sucks.

I worked for a prison for about a year and in order to graduate the academy for service as prison guards we'd have to know what it was like to get hit in the face with this stuff.

It sucks.

It really, really sucks. I thought I was tough and that I could do anything based on my time in the Marine Corps. But I dropped like a ton of bricks and was irritated by it for hours after getting a direct hit with that stuff.

It really sucks.

Now I've never been sprayed with the civilian stuff but have heard from some people who have that there are a few brands that are good to go.

Check out this article by Matthew to learn more about pepper spray.

And, as a disclaimer, know the laws in your state because I'm not sure if this stuff is legal everywhere.

A Flashlight:

A flashlight is one of those things that I've been called a hero for having.

When my kids would go to scouts before the world began to melt around us, the kids would be dropping stuff on the ground left and right, and the parents would be outside in the dark at night with their cell phone flashlight searching for whatever their kids lost in the grass.

None of the stuff was ever found unless I was there with my little EDC flashlight.

This is the item you'll use most often and I still use mine even when I'm not going out. Something fell under the bed? Whip out the flashlight. Kids think the boogeyman is in the closet? Whip out the light. Lose power one night and have to rummage around for candles?

You get my point.

We also just happen to sell EDC flashlights in our online store, here. You won't be sad you bought one, trust me on that. This is the most handy thing I carry that I use on a weekly basis.

First Aid:

First aid kits are really something we've been focusing on a lot lately. With the world currently what it is, there's a bigger chance than ever that you'd need to fix yourself or a loved one up.

Having the ability to do so with proper equipment that is proven to be trustworthy is of extreme importance.

Many people don't think about first aid gear as something they can carry everyday like you would a holstered gun or a flashlight in your pocket. But, the truth is that you can and if you use something like an ankle IFAK kit (IFAK stands for individual first aid kit) then you'll have it on you when you need it.

Of course, we also recommend having more robust kits anywhere they may be needed like in the car, garage, etc. For those I highly recommend Mountain Man Medical, who only stocks the best industry standard, proven trauma gear available.

Conclusion:

There are other things too, which I will carry that are also important but just didn't make the list this time. These are things like a pocket knife in case I need to cut some cake, and a pen in case I need to sign something or, ya know, something else.
