Minnesota Drops Reciprocity For 4 States

Effective January 1st 2017 Minnesota will no longer honor Concealed Carry Permits from Arkansas, Ohio, Oklahoma, and Tennessee. In addition, Minnesota will no longer honor the basic permits from North Dakota or South Dakota but will continue to honor the class 1 license from both North and South Dakota.

Minnesota Statue (M.S. 624.714) essentially states that they will honor permits that have laws that are similar to Minnesota's permit-to-carry law. The Department of Public Safety is required to do that research and publish that list of states. You can find it here:

I don’t plan to visit any of these states but what’s the logic behind this that makes any sense besides what’s listed in the article? My “personal opinion” take it for what’s it’s worth and it’s always been MY choice, the 2nd amendment is my permit to carry even when I lived most of my adult life in Kalifornia. So screw them! We really need and I “HOPE” someday to see an official reciprocity passed my Congress that coincides with the 2nd amendment to clear up any doubts “nationally”.

That would never happen under Obama, but under Trump it might happen. Pray for it.

Steve, you must not travel much. If you drove a car or truck down the Eastern Seaboard or traveled out west, you would need the map to know when your gun would need to be locked up in the trunk with no rounds in any magazines and separated from the gun and the ammo. Oh, and if you were in New Jersey and had a leftover hollow point in your pocket or backpack, and were stopped and searched by the NJ State troopers on I95 (a frequent occurrence) you could also end up in jail pretty quick. The map is essential for those of us that leave our town frequently or live near the borders of other states. Did you know if you happen to go to the airport in NYC with your pistol licensed in another state and dutifully declare it to ride in a locked box in your suitcase but don’t have a New York permit you will also be arrested? Welcome to the world of no reciprocity. You can declare the 2nd amendment all you want but you will be behind bars and the lib judges do not care. .

Is there a course or series of courses to take that would allow me to be legal in every state that allows concealed carry

      • Jacob Paulsen January 2, 2017 at 9:32 pm #

No, not currently. States currently retain the rights to determine if they will issue permits to non-residents and what other permits if any they will honor. However, you can do fairly well… 30+ states depending on where you live. Contact us (contact page above) and let us know where you live and we can give you some guidance on your best potential reciprocity.

We need a federal gun carry law, period!

    • sc January 2, 2017 at 11:37 pm #

we already have one it is called the second amendment to the constitution, but the politicians have weaseled around with the gun grabbers and it is ignored…

  8. Gregory Vatistas January 2, 2017 at 8:08 pm #

Jerry is correct about over run in Minnesota.
I truly hope for a civil war of some sort, as this country, we no longer are welcome here if you believe in western culture. I’ll be worm dirt, but one day the 2nd amendment will be like any other country.
I truly wish for a constitutional carry and hope it’s made to supersede state laws. I’m so sick of hearing shit about law abiding gun owners. I’m retired, so I rent a car for a couple months in the winter and go from NH to Florida. I bring about 10 firearms with me as. I do separate and lock up in cases individually, I separate all magazines and put them in locked box, I bring around 5000 rounds of ammo and separate them in there own locked box. From there I put them in the trunk. I really try to cover all aspects for all states.
I really don’t know what else, i can do as I do drive through those commie states.
My fear would be if i get a flat tire, I would need to unload 10 firearms and the firearm accessories on the side if the highway.

I was born in Texas, raised in Arkansas and have been in either a Marine uniform or police uniform all of my adult life and am now retired. I don’t leave the house without a handgun. I have several handguns and am proficient with all of them and currently am an adjunct firearms instructor.
I am older now about to be in my late 60’s
and can’t fight or run as well as I once could.
I will not be assaulted or watch others be assaulted and not act accordingly.
As to the Liberal states and their absurd gun
laws, they will be speaking Arabic or Martian or whatever because they think someone else should protect them. God helps those who help themselves.
Shoot often, shoot well and keep free.
    Rob

The Second Amendment is a Federal law. No one should have to apply for, and obtain, a state or local permit to excercise their Constitutional right. Any citizen in good standing should be allowed to have a firearm if they so choose.

If a person breaks the laws, the courts should order those convicted to have a notation placed on their driver’s license so they cannot buy or possess a firearm.

Our Constitutional rights should not change when you cross an imaginary line.

  12. Bill January 2, 2017 at 11:10 pm #

Shane just pretty much stole my thunder. What other constitutionally protected right stops at a state boarder? Answer: NONE! THE RIGHT OF THE PEOPLE TO KEEP AND BEAR ARMS SHALL NOT BE INFRINGED! I am damn sick and tired of being treated like a second class citizen because I own guns.

Permit: When the Government steals you rights and then sells it back to you. It’s to make money and control your activities. They don’t care one tiny bit if you want to protect yourself.
