CNN recently had presidential hopeful Francis O'Rourke on one of their shows, and in a roundabout sort of way, the host admitted that gun control doesn't work as O'Rourke clearly stumbled on his words and has no plans for making anything happen.
“You expect mass shooters to follow the law?” She asked. To which Beto replied, “our fellow Americans will follow the law. Yes.”
She gets it. The mass shooters, the people who don't follow the law by definition and have no plans of following any laws ever and have zero plans to follow any new laws. What they're planning to do, then, is disarm only law abiding citizens and hope, by default, that these sickos stop hurting people.
In fact, he kept returning to that point, he expects that his “fellow Americans” will follow the law and turn in their guns. He has no other answer, and just hopes that it will all mysteriously work itself out. You can watch the video, here:
Later on in the interview, that's not in the above video, he says that he plans to have a mandatory buyback on “assault weapons” on these “weapons of war” on these “weapons of terror.” And, he uses Australia as an example of where this has been successfully done in the past.
There are a couple problems with a “mandatory buyback” on guns. First, the government never owned them to begin with. How can we sell something “back” to the government that they never owned? In fact, I rarely ever buy used guns and have been the ONLY owner of them. They're mine.
The second problem they're going to face, is that Australia, while lovely–I'm sure, doesn't have a Second Amendment. Australia wasn't anywhere near as attached to their guns as we are here in the Land of the Free.
So, yeah I suppose some people likely will turn in their guns. Those folks who will turn in their AR-15 and AK-47 rifles will do so because they don't want to break the laws and / or, fear death.
Of course, there are also quite a few people who won't turn in their guns. And, to be honest, I suspect most of us won't turn them in. These are people like farmers, nurses, firemen, teachers, and other hard working Americans who have no intention of committing a “mass shooting” that will in turn be made into felons.
Many of them are trained veterans of different wars and peace times, and understand what the Constitution actually says … A well regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.
Those Americans who are unwilling to turn in their guns are also willing to fight for American rights so that their children don't have to feel that burden. Those Americans believe THEY ARE the militia.
At the end of the day, Beto has no real clue about what he says, nor does he know how he'll take guns from said people. Or, he has an idea and is afraid to say what it is.
All he seems to know for sure is that law abiding gun owners don't deserve the ability to protect themselves, and he's making that perfectly clear.
Beto: Give me your guns, or else.
Just a few gun owners from Kentucky:
Come and take them.
If you haven't heard yet, the above video was from a machine gun shoot in Kentucky three years ago that ABC news tried to pass off as a slaughter in Syria.
