Description
Foam plugs are the cheapest hearing protection you can buy and still some of the most effective. Walker’s disposable foam plugs carry an NRR of 32 dB, which puts them near the top of what any passive plug is rated for.
They’re simple to use. Roll the plug between your fingers into a thin cylinder, reach over your head and pull the top of your ear up and back to straighten the canal, then slide the plug in and hold it for a few seconds while it expands. The slow-recovery foam fills the canal and conforms to the shape of your ear. If you can still hear a lot of noise, take it out and try again. A plug that’s only partway in gives up most of its protection.
Fifty pairs means you can stop rationing them. Keep some in your range bag, the glove box, and your shop, and hand a pair to the new shooter who showed up without any. Indoor ranges and short-barreled guns are loud, and a lot of shooters wear foam plugs under their electronic muffs for extra protection.
