Defense After Dark

The Low-Light Readiness Challenge

Most concealed carriers spend years carrying a gun without ever testing their low-light readiness. Over the next several days, you'll know exactly where you stand.

Four challenges. One honest picture of where you stand. Complete all four to earn your Low-Light Readiness badge and $5 in store credit. The current challenge opens automatically below — and you can revisit any you've missed anytime.

Challenge 1Gear CheckDo I even have the right equipment?

Most people think owning a flashlight means they're prepared. It doesn't.

There is a real difference between owning a light and being ready to use one, and almost nobody has ever audited the gap. Today we start there — not with training, not with technique, just an honest inventory of what you actually have.

This will take about ten minutes, and part of that will be spent looking up specifications you have probably never checked. That's intentional — most people have never actually looked at what their light is rated to do.

WHAT TO DO

  1. Go get your everyday carry light — the one actually on you, not the one in a drawer.
  2. Look up its specifications on the manufacturer's site, the box, or the manual.
  3. Do the same for your weapon-mounted light if you run one.
  4. Fill out the audit below.

If you cannot find a spec, say so on the form. That is a legitimate answer and it tells us something useful.
