What's inside

One page per state. Everything you need to check before you cross the line.

Each state and DC gets a plain-English summary that covers:

Sample state page from Legal Boundaries By State

A sample state page

Plus

30+ pages on traveling with a firearm

You also get a summary by legal topic, so you can see one law across all 50 states and DC at a glance. Then the travel section walks through the situations that catch people off guard:

Air travel

How to properly check a firearm, firearm parts or ammunition on your next flight.

FOPA 926A

What the federal safe passage law covers, and how to apply it when you transport firearms through a state with stricter laws.

National parks, monuments and memorials

How to research and understand the rules for carrying inside federal sites.

Hotels

Best practices and the laws that apply when you're staying overnight with a gun.

Why it matters

Which gun laws could you be breaking without knowing it?

Good people end up in court over gun laws they didn’t know existed. Two examples:

Called to New Jersey to help, then arrested

Brian Fletcher co-owns a company that repairs cell towers. When a storm left half a million people in New Jersey without power, his crews responded. He was arrested there for doing something he’d been taught to do back home in North Carolina.

A Texas permit didn't travel to New York

Elizabeth Elderli, a former U.S. Marine from Houston, visited the 9/11 Memorial with two handguns in her backpack. Her Texas permit covered them and she believed it was valid in New York. When she saw the no-firearms sign, she told a police officer about them. She was arrested and charged with felony weapon possession, facing 3½ to 15 years in prison.

It isn’t only New York and New Jersey. States with a gun-friendly reputation, including Texas, Florida and Alaska, have laws that can trap an otherwise law-abiding visitor. A felony conviction can cost you the right to own a gun for good.

What the pros say about it

Unlike self-defense law, gun law varies enormously from state to state and while many gun owners will never be involved in a lethal self-defense incident; most are impacted daily by gun laws. The Legal Boundaries by State book is an impressive reference guide for relevant gun laws for today's traveling gun owner. It is well organized and easy to understand. Further, customers get ongoing no-cost access to the most updated version of the eBook which is a significant value. Don't leave home without it!

As a professional firearm safety and defense instructor, I travel across state lines quite often, sometimes I fly, sometimes I drive… The “Legal Boundaries by State” book and digital file by ConcealedCarry.com is my first “goto” resource when seeing what can and can not be done in the states I am traveling through and traveling to… You can't protect your family from a jail cell. This is the only such resource that I offer on the Trigger Pressers Union website. I used it, so should you.

In my opinion, the e-book version is more useful. Load it into the reader app on your phone, and you will always have the handy updated reference available. There are websites that offer similar information, but I trust the folks at ConcealedCarry.com to get the information right and keep it up to date.

The one thing I really like in this book is the ability to find the information on a single state but also being able to see all the states in a table. That's really handy and something no one does on their website. Plus if I don't have wifi access I have a book to look through.

I bought the E version and love it. I do volunteer disaster relief work and may head to one state and depending on what the storm does the destination may be changed to a different state. Having the E book on my phone I can easily check the laws before I enter the state.

This answers a lot of questions about different states and their carry guidelines. It, to us, is a must have for traveling and for home state updates also. The e-book is a great way to take along on our laptop when traveling.
