Georgia Changes Mind About Honoring the Virginia Permit

Georgia permit reciprocityWe previously reported that Georgia would begin honoring the Virginia permit when on July 1st Virginia began to honor all permits from all states. As a general rule Georgia will honor a permit from any state that honors the Georgia permit.

The Georgia Attorney General has announced that they will not be honoring the Virginia permit because Virginia will not honor Georgia permits issued to those 18-20 years of age. This doesn't make a lot of sense since Georgia has been honoring permits from other states that have similar policies. We'll see how this unfolds but for now Georgia will not honor ANY Virginia concealed carry permit.

How can someone in Georgia be 18-20 years old and have a carry permit, when the age requirement to obtain a permit is to be 21 years of age?

Georgia law allows persons 18-20 to apply for and obtain a permit if:
they have proof that s/he have completed basic training in the U.S. armed forces, and
they are currently serving OR have been honorably discharged from the U.S. armed forces (documentation will be required).

Georgia Residents MUST have a Georgia Weapons License. You can’t take an online course from another state(like Virginia), and have it honored in Georgia (if you are a Georgia Resident). It’s only valid if you are visiting Georgia from Virginia. Again Georgia residents MUST have a GWL

this forgetfulness is rampant all over. I personally lived with my rifle and pistol for 6
years. Forget me not so you yo yo’s can push us around and out of sight,
I served in time of war; Vietnam and so forth; then to be forgotten when it comes to
getting a permit. a permit should be for all states come hell or hot water…………….

As a Virginia resident CC permit holder who travels to GA frequently to visit In-law and vacation, I find this utterly ridiculous. It sounds like the Georgia AG has sour grapes and an axe to grind.

Virginia HB 1582 introduced to fix this. Passed house vote yesterday 78-19, heads to senate next.

GA is the ONLY state I drive through on my way back home to TX that doesn’t honor my VA permit. Heck, I drove to CO & then to TX this past summer and the only state that didn’t honor my permit was IL! I guess GA finds the lives of their criminals more valuable than mine. Thanks GA…

Well I have the same deal, every state, even the ones up north, that I travel to or through, has the goodness to recognize and permit us to conceal carry.
So everytime I go through Georgia, I have to pull up somewhere and strip down and lock away, one or more of my best friends.
You know, I wonder just how many guns get to the hands of the bad folks after they break into a car of a law bidding citizen, that had to strip down because of petty bullshit
If the law bidding citizen had been able to do the regular conceal carry, that or those weapons would not been there for the taking matter fact, that aw bidding conceal carry person with there gun or guns, may have been at the place w where they were able to do what non of us CCerswant to do but the facts played out to where he took out 1 or more bad law breaking evil folks NS b the hero, when all he wanted to do was make it home or fill there has tank
It’s bad that the federal government has laws that covers much of the gun world, so why don’t they just rule on a country boy wide CC, even in the territories v
